The SQ5 is the first SUV, to wear the symbol S sports models Audi. It is also the first model S run on diesel. This is especially the first diesel car, that seeks to pass for gasoline.
The SQ5, is not the first vehicle to try to rhyme with diesel sport. Since the success of the Volkswagen Golf GTD, including yet another version is marketed these days, many manufacturers are pressed into the breach, with more or less success.
Diesel, one knows the strengths. Starting with its low power consumption and its economic character. But since, he always used to overeating, oil is also greatly appreciated for its generous torque. A feature especially significant, that we are dealing with a heavy vehicle on high legs. This is the case of MPVs, 4x4s and, of course, the SUV. But the first of them, the good old Range Rover had charmed audiences with the charm of its big V8 … gasoline.
Audi seems to be remembered, when concocting a sports version of its Q5. And did not hesitate to use a funny trick: a sound generator system, that gives the V6 TDI biturbo cavernous a petrol V8 rattle. To do this, two boxes mounted on the bypass exhaust amplify the noise and before modulate the return in the cockpit via a loudspeaker. Piper, artificial, artificial … Purists diesel, if any, say what they like, but the result is stunning.
For those, who still doubt the intentions of Audi, they take a look at the front fenders. Instead of finding the usual abbreviation TDI, you will discover a disturbing V6T. It means what it means, right? V6 turbo, of course, but a 3.0 V6 TDI biturbo taking his ease under the hood. With 313 hp, so, it has 68 hp, more than the 3.0 TDI, all complemented by a torque of 650 Nm available from 1 450 r / min. The SQ5,j its attractive 1920 kg empty on the scale, with the assistance of an 8-speed automatic transmission, with the smoothness and responsiveness make no regret DSG 7, it is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km / h, in just 5.1 seconds. That is to say, to compete with the Porsche Boxster S, not less. Performance-wise, sure, the SQ5 does not usurp its name.
The chassis is of course modified report, adopting a strengthened suspension with lowered ride 30 mm wider track and 20-inch wheels shod with low-profile tires, instead of 17 inches from the base version.
Style changes are minimal and SQ5, is more in the discretion, singling mainly by its grille and special shields, its tailgate spoiler and two twin tailpipes.
LIFE ON BOARD
Audi France, have chosen to distribute the SQ5, in its most exclusive version of the internal layout and equipment so redolent of luxury. In traditional finish “home”, super-polished, thus adding many trim in brushed aluminum look great and upholstery combines a pearl nappa leather and alcantara.
Wraparound seats with electric adjustment are specific, and it also benefits from a large series sunroof called Open Sky. The sliding rear seat, however, is charged 240 euros in option, which is pretty shabby. Optionally available, the Drive Select (350 €), interesting, as it allows to configure taste a range of operating parameters and various driver assistance systems such as adaptive cruise control (€ 1,240) the assistant keeping track (610 €) or the blind spot monitoring (610 €).
NOTICE OF SELF-ADDICT
Luxury and power at a price, but Audi goes there still a bit much. At € 70 700, the SQ5 V6 TDI 313 hp is 20,000 euros more than a Q5 3.0 V6 TDI 245 hp entry-level, which does not yet figure trapanelle. And it is still 4650 euros more expensive than a BMW X3 xDrive35d as well as power and well equipped.
That said, as soon as one takes the steering wheel, SQ5 knows how to find arguments to justify the bill. What characterizes first, this is a subtle blend of strength and softness. With the help of the excellent auto box, punch biturbo is expressed indeed never abruptly. This does not prevent the craft seriously move. Whatever the engine, it starts like a ball and can exceed in absolute serenity.
With the rumbling that accompanies acceleration, one could easily believe driving a sports car. If it were not for the high position and the consequent weight, that one is obliged to take into consideration when approaching a turn or brake.
With its all-wheel drive gives the starring role to the rear axle, the SQ5 happens anyway to show a nice agility, without departing a reassuring natural balance. Great cushioning and camped on its large wheels, and it swallows small bumpy roads with amazing relaxation and a significant comfort for passengers.
Finally, with respect to its performance, consumption remains reasonable, with about 9 l/100 km and above 11 liters sporty. At this level, it is a real diesel so.
