BMW’s first electric vehicle, the i3 was officially presented on Monday and will be exhibited at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Boasting a weight of 1195 kg, it relies on a block of 170 horsepower, giving it a range of between 130 and 160 km.
BMW has made Monday in the presentation of the first model in its range zero emissions during organized in New York, London and Beijing simultaneous events. Dubbed i3, this electric vehicle has been credited with launching a preview done via Youtube at 14:30.
The outline of the technical specifications of the BMW i3 had been released on July 10. The Bavarian manufacturer has sought Monday to disclose in detail all the characteristics of its establishment and the official photos which had been leaked last week.
To maintain a record weight, for a power of 1195 kg, the propulsion relies heavily on CFRP, a lightweight high-tech material, durable and in case of collision.
Under the hood, we note the presence of an electric motor delivering a power of 125 kW, or 170 hp for a torque of 250 Nm available from a standing start. BMW confirms that block claiming 50 kg on the scale ensures a 0 to a 100 km / h in 7.2 seconds and shot a top speed of 150 km / h, while the 0 to 60 km / h given 3 7 seconds.
Key element of the electric vehicle, the battery life is between 130 and 160 kilometers in everyday traffic with a lithium-ion battery. Numbers in the times, more or less equivalent to other 100% electric vehicles (Nissan Leaf, Renault Zoe …). Three driving modes are available: Comfort, Eco Pro, Eco Pro + with a battery plus a further 20 kilometers to the Pro Eco and a further 40 kilometers to the Eco Pro +.
More interestingly, the i3 can be fitted on request, with a range extender that, when the charge of lithium-ion battery drops below a preset value, maintained at a constant level during the trip. This function is provided by a twin-cylinder 650 cc petrol with an output of 25 kW (34 hp), placed directly next to the electric motor over the rear axle, with the maximum daily autonomy about 300 kilometers . Charging can be done via a conventional household power socket, wall housing BMW i Wallbox or public charging terminal.
Note that optional extension autonomy called BMW i3 REx appears to 4710 euros.
Aesthetically, the i3 remains faithful to the eponymous concept introduced two years ago at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show: lined with a very small door overhang that allows it to display a diameter of only 9.86 limited circle compact look meters. This urban comfort is also reflected in the size control, with 3.999 meters long, 1.775 meters wide and 1.578 meters high while not forgetting a large glazed area especially at the tailgate, or a certain practicality with the presence antagonists of doors.
BMW i3 Wheels
However, BMW announces livability height with a wheelbase of 2,570 m and a particular care to provide links to the ground, even if the huge 19-inch wheels alloy, and even 20-inch option is rather there to flatter the retina.
The materials in the cabin are part of the theme of the environment advocated by the vehicle through “leather, wood, recycled or renewable raw materials.”. BMW announced and seatbacks particularly fine while the control panel with a diameter of 6.5 inches in the basic version can reach 8.8 inches in optional versions.
Price of the Car
In France, the BMW i3 will be available from 27,990 euros after deducting the bonus of 7,000 euros allocated to electric vehicles ( see rates of the BMW i3 ). Its first deliveries are scheduled for November, two months after exposure at the Frankfurt which runs from September 12 to 22.
